Canberra Light Rail, Canberra ACT
Canberra Metro is a light rail network designed to connect the growing city with a safe, accessible and reliable transport network. The initial 12km network links the northern town of Gungahlin to the city centre, with 13 stops in-between. As the city continues to expand, the Federal Government has flagged the potential for future extensions beyond the current stage.
Project Design Brief
With a multitude of security conscious organisations within the Canberra CBD (such as Embassies, Federal Government Departments and Australian Defence), designers opted for high security products for infrastructure assets. Additionally, securing the underground cable network that services the light rail system was a high consideration for designers. Designers had to specify SL1 SCEC (Security Construction and Equipment Committee) approved cable pits.
